One mum has managed to come up with the perfect way to give both her children their own space despite only having one bedroom for both of them

While having two children share a room can seem like a great idea when they’re still young, it can quickly become a headache as they get older - especially as they become desperate for their own private space away from their siblings.

But one mum has uncovered the perfect trick to help separate her daughters’ bedroom, which has given them their own space while still sharing the same room in the family home. In a Facebook group called DIY on a Budget Official, mum Sharlene Tait revealed she used her daughters’ bunkbeds to form the basis of the room’s split.

With the bed in the middle of the room, Sharlene added wooden panels to opposite sides of the bunks to leave it looking like single beds, and giving the illusion each girl has their own room. The mum wrote: "This was my big decorating project, all DIY-ed by myself and my dad. Both my girls share a bedroom but there's a bit of an age gap between them and I wanted to give them their own space.

“We added wooden panels to opposite sides of the beds to block off the rooms. Oldest daughter has the top bunk and the first 'room' and then youngest has the bottom bunk and the 'room' at the back." The trick now means Sharlene’s oldest child has space under her bed to fit a desk and dressing table, while the youngest daughter has a cosy alcove bed.

And to continue the illusion of separate rooms, Sharlene re-painted one half of the room pale blue for her eldest daughter, while the youngest has retained the previous pink theme. Sharlene added: "I'm so pleased with how it's turned out and my girls are over the moon with their own rooms!"

The impressive transformation wowed other Facebook users, and the post now has more than 14,000 likes from members of the DIY group. One member wrote: “Absolutely beautiful!!! Very creative, love all the colours you’ve used too." While a second added: "Wow wow wow!!!! That is stunning. I love it." And another posted: "Brilliant idea. Looks amazing!"
