Although it's usually the family hub to sit and watch an episode of Eastenders, catch up on Love Island, or have a movie night, apparently it should be kept hidden.
Interior designers at Englanderline explained: "A living room is often said to be the heart of a family’s home. As it is the room that pumps life into both your private and social life, many wish for it to feel and look as special as it possibly can be.
"However, achieving that perfect balance of comfort and aesthetic is no easy task."
The experts have revealed their top tips to make the most of your living room.
They revealed you should try to avoid making the TV the focus point of the room.
While most of us place our furniture so we can all get a good view of the screen, the experts say this is a big mistake.
"Try to avoid facing all your furniture towards the television," the experts explained.
"One way to do this is by arranging your seats in either a U-shape or an L-shape. These types of arrangements work well for directing one’s eye to another prominent part of your room – a fireplace for instance."
As well as your TV, the experts say you should keep any technology on display to a minimum.
"Do not allow them to dominate your spacing. Instead, if you have the spacing to allow for it, arrange for some built-in shelves to put your devices on," they added.
Cabinets and sideboards can offer a great focus point in the living room instead of the TV if you decorate it properly.
Adding ornaments or personalised details to the sideboard will give guests something other to look at than the screen.
One simple way to make your cabinet look even more luxe without spending money is by being mindful of where ornaments are placed.
The interior designers said: "When placing objects on your cabinet, try not to place items of the same scale beside one another.
"By doing you will create a stimulating effect that both you and your guests will love."
don't worry if the cabinet looks totally out of place when you first bring it into your living space.
They say woodwork often looks bigger when empty so once you've added all of your nicknacks it should fit right at home.
