With a new season comes new decoration. Begin with a new fall line with a worldly point of view and end with a rare Cecily Brown print available at the Metropolitan Museum of Art shop.

Social media attempts to make everything appear beautiful. Influencers are considered the arbiters of good taste. Fast fashion and fast design foolishly use the words "high-quality" and "exclusive," though that is likely not the case. How does one truly know when luxury, true luxury, sits before them?

According to Gary Friedman, CEO and chairman of RH, the answer lies in the craftsmanship behind the beauty. "[It's] why we use the finest European and American White Oak or Walnut and Indonesian Teak when fashioning and finishing our furniture," Friedman says. "Why our sofas are predominately made in America with eight-way hand-tied springs (considered the gold standard), or Made in Italy with engineered foam and exquisite tailoring to ensure a superior sitting experience that will last a lifetime."

RH's Fall 2023 collection is composed of designers around the world who are living practitioners of this sentiment. Harrison and Nicholas Condos, a design duo from Australia, create a natural sideboard, bed canopy, and day bed (this editor's favorite) forged from European White Oak. Designer Oliver Oulton from the United Kingdom utilizes Belgian Flax Linens for elongated sofas. Organically shaped sideboards and tables of American White Oak are imagined by American designer Julie Lawrence. The point is hard to miss.

Come the fall, it's important to remember that luxury is never based on a price tag, but rather on the thought, creativity, and even something's rarity. RH's Fall 2023 collection is an emblem of this. It helps, too, that the aesthetics of the collection is one that evokes serenity: light woods and organic lines that are free of harsh angles and colors.

For more than 25 years, Cecily Brown has managed to captivate art enthusiasts with her abstract expressionist style. Her paintings, which frequently contain motifs of women, skulls, skeletons, and other still-lives, have frequented high-earning auctions and high-profile exhibitions— with prices reaching around $6.7 million, according to Sotheby's. TLDR: she's one of the highest female artists today.

Currently, there's an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City titled " Cecily Brown: Death and The Maid on view until December 3, 2023. If the exhibition, which consists of fifty paintings, drawings, sketchbooks, and monotypes from throughout her career, entices one to acquire a piece one actually can—albeit a print. "Cecily Brown's newest etching was inspired by her recent look at Jan Brueghel the Elder's 17th-century allegorical series The Five Senses (Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid), in which personifications of hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell are paired with the instruments and devices that symbolize them,” said Ian Alteveer, Aaron I. Fleischman Curator in The Met's Department of Modern and Contemporary Art. “Piling them all together in one delirious heap..."

Edition one of twenty five will go to The Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection, and the others will be available for purchase with an introductory price of $8,000. The proceeds will support the museum's collection, study, conservation, and presentation of 5,000 years of art.
